Immerse yourself in African culture

Take your studies and learning deeper by experiencing culture and history through hands-on opportunities. Our Africana Studies major provides students with avenues to be immersed in new cultures. You will have the opportunity to participate in the Model African Union Conference, where you will serve as mock ambassadors of an African nation. During the conference, you will:

• Discover African history
• Engage with culture
• Experience African development issues and limitations
• Network with students from across the United States
• Practice diplomacy

Mercer University also hosts an African Cultural Night and African Diaspora Day. During these events, students dress in traditional clothing, enjoy food that’s popular or traditional in African countries, and participate in live performances. We also host a variety of distinguished speakers and lecturers from Africa, and students frequently build a strong network of contacts through these events.
