Engage your community with science

At Mercer University, we challenge you to take ownership of your education and change the world. We call this engaged learning, where you use the knowledge gained inside the classroom and laboratory to improve your community. It’s one of the foundations of our scientific education, as we strive to improve the world.

As a Chemistry major, we provide you with multiple opportunities to apply your learning outside the classroom. Our department supports an active, award-winning American Chemical Society Student Affiliates chapter. This student group leads a number of on-campus activities during National Chemistry Week and serves the Middle Georgia community by performing chemistry demonstrations at elementary schools throughout the year. These outreach efforts are designed to spark student interest in science and cultivate the next generation of scientists.
