Mercer University’s Africana Studies Department challenges you to reexamine your point of view as you engage with history, politics, current events, and cultures from different perspectives. Our dedicated faculty will push you to explore questions of race, civil rights, history, and political engagement of black Americans. Our curriculum of in-classroom teaching, coupled with engaged learning, and cultural immersion will prepare you for your next step, whether it’s a career or postgraduate studies.
Majors and Minors
- Africana Studies (major and minor) — A major in Africana Studies leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Africana Studies students study the legacy of Africa and the African Diaspora and its impact on issues concerning race and class.
