Mercer University’s Africana Studies major equips you to engage with history, politics, current events, and cultures from new and different perspectives. The Africana Studies major is a Bachelor of Arts degree and is an excellent platform to begin reaching your higher-learning goals. You will you explore questions of race, civil rights, history, and political engagement of black Americans. You will gain a wide array of knowledge and education as you study how African American history and culture intersects with topics including:

The Africana Studies major is designed for intelligent, motivated students who are curious about the history of African Americans and their experiences in the United States today. Once graduated, you will be well-prepared for graduate programs such as law school, journalism, or other studies in the humanities.
