Mercer University’s Chemistry Department encourages you to broaden your scientific expertise through studying various fields of chemistry such as analytical, environmental, inorganic, organic, and more. Our program lays a solid groundwork for hands-on laboratory projects and empowers you to conduct research as an undergraduate student. We offer a number of majors designed to meet your specific career and academic goals.
Majors and minors
- Chemistry (major and minor) — This Bachelor of Science degree prepares you for careers in biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, and other similar fields. The coursework equips you to solve complex problems through research and laboratory experiences.
- Chemical Commerce (major) — Our Chemistry Department collaborates with the Stetson-Hatcher School of Business to provide a chemical commerce major. You can earn a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree, and it’s an ideal degree path if you are interested in medical business, biotechnology development, or pharmacy.
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (major) — The biochemistry and molecular biology major is an interdisciplinary major taught in conjunction with the Biology Department. Courses focus on the intersection of biological and chemical concepts and prepare you for a successful career in medicine and research.
