Program Requirements
About the major
The Communication Studies program presents an organized approach to an understanding of our signs, symbols, codes, media, modes of communication and mass communication. The program uses both theoretical and practical strategies to produce communication generalists. It is intended to satisfy the various interests of students seeking a strong liberal arts background as well as those who have technical and professional concerns in the field. The Communication Studies major consists of 27 hours.
About the minor
A minor in Communication Studies consists of a minimum of 15 hours including as a core, COM 200; a choice of COM 400 or 420; and nine additional COM credit hours, three of which must be numbered 300 or above.
Departmental honors
Majors may attain departmental honors in Communication Studies by meeting the following requirements:
- Achieve an overall grade point average of 3.5
- Achieve a grade point average of 3.5 in the Communication Studies major
