Data Science

Become Skilled in Data Analysis

What is data science? Data science is a field that utilizes processes and algorithms to uncover patterns in data leading to smarter decisions in your field. Mercer University’s data science minor will equip you with in-demand skills to extract insights from data, which will boost your career prospects across diverse fields.

A data science minor complements any major, as data skills are increasingly valuable across almost all industries. Some common and highly beneficial pairings include: computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering and natural sciences like biology, chemistry and physics.

A minor in data science requires 18 semester credit hours and includes classes like introduction to data science, introductory statistics, computational statistics, applied data science and a data science seminar. Students will learn programming in Python and computational skills, data handling and management, data analysis and modeling, and how to communicate data insights. Data science minors also will participate in project-based learning and capstone projects, use industry-standard tools and software, engage in interdisciplinary research, and be offered practicum or internship opportunities.

Students who minor in data science at Mercer will learn valuable analytics skills that complement and enhance their primary field of study, making them more versatile and marketable in a data-driven world.
