Understand Games and Their Role in Society
The game studies minor at Mercer University is an interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares students for understanding the role of games in society. Game studies minors learn about how games uniquely create arguments, the managed relationship between players and designers, and how the largest entertainment medium on the planet positions itself as a cultural force.
Students have the opportunity to engage in the serious study of games, and they also have opportunities to experiment with designs of their own. This program is purposefully a program of analysis and critical understanding, helping students break down game design and creation practices so that they can better engage with the complexity of games as a unique medium.
The game studies minor also facilitates many different modes of academic research, including applied design and independent research.
A minor in game studies consists of 15 semester credit hours. View all game studies minor requirements and course descriptions.
