Alpha Kappa Delta honor society

You have the opportunity as a Sociology major to join Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honors Society. The society was founded in 1920 by Dr. Emory S. Bogardus to acknowledge and promote excellence in sociological research and activities to improve the human condition.

To be eligible to join AKD, you must officially declare a Sociology major or demonstrate a serious interest through our courses. Sociology minors are eligible to join, and other majors are also eligible if you take at least four regular courses in Sociology at Mercer. Other requirements include:

  • Must be at least a junior
  • Must maintain an overall grade point average of at least 3.3
  • Must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in Sociology courses taken at Mercer
