Change your perspective
Mercer University’s Africana Studies major equips you to engage with history, politics, current events, and cultures from new and different perspectives. The Africana Studies major is a Bachelor of Arts degree and is an excellent platform to begin reaching your higher-learning goals. You will you explore questions of race, civil rights, history, and political engagement of black Americans. You will gain a wide array of knowledge and education as you study how African American history and culture intersects with topics including:

The Africana Studies major is designed for intelligent, motivated students who are curious about the history of African Americans and their experiences in the United States today. You will form lasting relationships with your professors and classmates while tackling real-world problems and cultural issues facing your generation. Once graduated, you will be well-prepared for graduate programs such as law school, journalism, or other studies in the humanities. You will enter the workforce with strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills that can be applied to any career.
