Dr. Anna McCaghren Fleming

headshot of woman wearing a white blouseDr. Anna McCaghren Fleming began teaching at Mercer in fall 2023. Before coming to the University, she served as an instructor at the University of West Georgia for six years. She completed her Ph.D. in political science in 2021 at Georgia State University with a dissertation that examined media framing of and public attitudes towards solar panel tariffs.

Professional Interests

Dr. Fleming teaches courses on American politics, including courses about political institutions, political behavior, public policy and public administration. Her research interests include media framing, motivated reasoning, and attitudes toward the Supreme Court. Her most recent publication is forthcoming in Political Science Quarterly and is titled, “Reforming the Bench: Public Support for Supreme Court Institutional Change.”

Other Interests

Dr. Fleming enjoys reading and listening to lecture series when she’s not busy keeping up with her husband and two daughters. She also has a bearded dragon named Liz.
