Terrence Griffin, Ph.D., joined Mercer University in 2026 as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, specializing in cybersecurity and data science. He brings more than 20 years of teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member at multiple institutions, where he has taught courses in accounting, cybersecurity, information systems and data science. In addition to his academic career, Griffin has over 25 years of experience in information technology and executive leadership. His professional background includes serving as chief information officer in the financial services industry, as well as an executive advisor within the healthcare sector. He also serves as a cyber warfare officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Robins Air Force Base. Griffin’s diverse experience across academia, industry and military service provides students with practical insights into cybersecurity, technology leadership, and data-driven decision-making.

Professional Interests
Griffin’s research examines the intersection of AI, cybersecurity and business strategy, with a particular emphasis on maximizing organizational value while managing emerging risks. His work explores how organizations can leverage AI and data-driven technologies to improve decision-making, increase operational efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and drive sustainable growth. At the same time, he investigates the cybersecurity, governance, ethical and regulatory challenges associated with AI adoption, including data protection, algorithmic bias, privacy and organizational risk management. Through his research, Griffin seeks to develop practical frameworks that help organizations balance innovation with security, enabling leaders to harness the benefits of emerging technologies while maintaining resilience, trust and regulatory compliance in an evolving digital landscape.

When away from the classroom and technology initiatives, Griffin enjoys golfing, cooking and staying engaged in the world of investing and personal finance. He is also a dedicated fantasy football player who appreciates the blend of analytics, strategy and competition the game provides
