Professional Interests

Rivera’s filmmaking captures stories not bound by the constraints of one specific genre or mode. She has a taste for drama, thrillers, and sci-fi, and is unafraid to look beyond traditional narrative and documentary to the realm of the experimental. Common themes in her work are community and family, mental health, and queer life experiences.

Rivera has started to explore the realm of celluloid film. She is currently creating an experimental documentary in 16mm film, as well as capturing Atlanta’s diverse communities in 35mm photography.

Filmmaking as their art is ever-evolving as they continue to live life and create films. Working in higher education through their role as a graduate student in Georgia State University’s M.F.A. Digital Filmmaking program has allowed them to hone their skills not only in filmmaking but in film education.

Rivera’s film, Let It Out, was a finalist at the SFQP, Cinequeer Film Night in May 2025.
