headshot of robert hargroveDr. Robert J. “Bob” and Carolyn Hargrove came to Mercer in 1975 along with their two small children, Adam and Sarah. They purchased Professor Robert Pulham’s home at 1223 Adams Street and spent five years renovating each and every room. They still live there today.

Vinyl cation solvolysis and analysis of trace pesticides in human tissue

Professional Interests

Dr. Hargrove taught organic chemistry for many years. From 1981-82, he directed the U.S. Department of Education Title III grant, which formed the School of Business, Great Books program, computer science program, and other curriculum improvements. From 1982-84, he was the dean pro tem of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In 1991, he and others started the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences program in environmental science, eventually offering both a major in environmental science and environmental studies. He retired full time in 2009.

Other Interests

From 1981-82, Dr. Hargrove was a senior Fulbright lecturer at Cuttington University College in Suakoko, Liberia. From 1995-96, he was a visiting professor at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. From 1996-97, he was a William C. Foster Fellow with the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency of the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
